Manhattan residents pursuing master’s degrees from Emporia State University’s School of Library and Information Management now have a little extra help.
Mavis Fletcher and Lois Fink, two sisters from Manhattan, have established the Mildred B. Loeffler Scholarship at Emporia State University in honor of their late sister, Mildred earned a bachelor’s degree from ESU in 1935 before moved to Manhattan in the 1970s. She died in May 2004.
When Mildred Loeffler moved to Manhattan after retiring as head of the Business Administration Library at the University of Michigan, she volunteered for many libraries in town. During her career as a librarian, she supported promising young students. If they tried to decline her gifts, she simply told them to “pass it on.” Her sisters established the scholarship in the spirit of carrying on Mildred’s philosophy of generosity.
The Loeffler scholarship recipient this year is Royce Kitts of Manhattan. Kitts also received the scholarship in the 2006-07 school year. For more information on the scholarship, call 341-5440.
