EHS class of ’77
The Class of 1977 at Emporia High School is looking for classmates to notify them of a 30-year reunion to be held Oct. 12 -13. Living history
The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve will have living history activities and a quilt show from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Saturday through Monday.
At 10 a.m., a program about historic cooking will be presented in the cooking area. At noon, ranch workers will stop for lunch under the walnut tree by the barn.
“Dyeing on the Prairie” with examples of natural dyed fibers will show at 2:30 p.m. in the barn.
The Prairie Quilt Show will be held all three days and will include quilting demonstrations. Local quilts will be displayed in the barn each day and visitors may vote for their favorites . The winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Monday. To reserve a place for a quilt, call (620) 273-6034 before Wednesday.
Bus tours of the preserve’s “back country” are available at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. through Oct. 28. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 5-18 years, and no charge for children four years and younger.
Guided tours of the 1881 limestone ranch house are conducted hourly on the half-hour, from 9:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m.
The one-room Lower Fox Creek School is open from noon until 4 p.m. on weekends in September and October. The school will be open Labor Day.
