LEBO — There were no injuries in a house fire Tuesday evening in Lebo that caused between $115,000 and $120,000 in damage to a home and its contents.
Bill Walker, fire chief of Coffey County Fire District, said firefighters were sent to a structure fire at 404 N. Poplar St. in Lebo. He said there were no injuries or fatalities as a result of the fire.
Units responding were Station No. 6 out of Lebo, Station No. 7 out of Waverly and Station No. 3 out of Burlington. Coffey County EMS and the American Red Cross also responded to the fire.
Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the 1,500 square-foot modular home when emergency crew arrived. The home is owned by Kimberly Smith and her 5-year-old twins live in the home along with Smith’s fiancé, Geoffrey Gorup.
Gorup was believed to be the only person home at the time of the blaze, Walker said.
Walker said the fire, which was determined to be accidental, started at the rear of the home on a wooden deck that came off of the kitchen and dining room areas. The fire then spread through the roof, Walker said.
The home received extreme fire, smoke, heat and water damage.
“The structure is still standing but has received a lot of (damage),” Walker said.
