Application deadline looming for farmers
The expiration date for filing applications for Emergency Disaster loans by farmers and ranchers in Lyon, Greenwood, Woodson and Wabaunsee counties is Sept. 10, according to farm loan manager Jane M. Armitage of the Farm Service Agency, 3020 W. 18th Ave.
Those needing credit because of drought, excessive winds and high temperatures on Jan. 1, 2006 and continuing, and who think they are eligible for FSA assistance, should make their applications at the FSA office. For more information, call 343-6944.
Square-dance lessons offered
The Bluestem Swinger Square Dance Club will give square-dance lessons from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning Sept. 10 at the Emporia Senior Center, 603 E. 12th Ave. A local caller, Larrry Stack, will be the instructor. For more information, call 343-6480.
Call for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Parents who are interested in getting their children involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can attend the Sign Up for Scouting Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Fliers distributed at schools will designate the location for this event. To join either organization, parents must fill out a registration form and pay $10 annual dues (scholarships available). Adults, too, can register to be volunteers and serve as troop leaders or co-leaders.
