Man dies in wreck on Sunday

Monday, August 27, 2007

One rural Emporia man is dead following a motor vehicle accident Sunday evening in the 1800 block of East Sixth Avenue.

The 19-year-old, whose name has not been released pending notification of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

Lt. Scott Cronk of the Emporia Police Department said Emporia/Lyon County EMS personnel, Emporia police officers and Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the accident. Upon arrival, the responding units found the man dead. He later was positively identified by fingerprints.

Cronk said a preliminary investigation indicates that the dead man was in a vehicle which was westbound on East Sixth Avenue. The vehicle skidded out of control, left the roadway and struck a vehicle parked in a private driveway in the 1800 block of East Sixth Avenue.

Cronk said there is a possibility that another person was in the vehicle at the time of the accident who apparently walked away. The Emporia Police Department is asking that person or anybody else with information about the accident to call the department at 342-1766 or call Lyon County Crime Stoppers at 342-2273.
