24-year-old man stabbed Saturday evening in Emporia

A 24-year-old man was sent to Newman Regional Health Saturday evening after being stabbed in the 900 block of East Street.
At about 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Edward P. Owens of the Emporia Police Department said officers responded to a fight in progress with reported weapons.
When officers arrived at 905 East St., they found Liban A. Ali, 24 on the ground in front of an apartment complex with multiple stab wounds to his back.
Witnesses at the scene gave a description of the suspect who had just fled the area on foot.
Emporia Police bike Officer Eubank located the suspect in the west alley in the 900 block of East Street. The suspect, who was identified as Abdi G. Abdi, 30, was eventually taken into custody.
Ali was taken to Newman, where he was treated for multiple stab wounds to his back.
Formal charges against Abdi will be filed through Lyon County District Court. EPD is continuing its investigation.
