Downtown Emporia is set to get some extra sprucing up during two upcoming clean-up days in September and October.
Kayla Oney of Emporia Main Street said September’s clean-up day will start at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7 and has no set stop time. All volunteers are asked to meet at the Main Street office, 12 E. Fifth Ave. The clean-up will include all of downtown.
“That is basically to clean up gardens and pick up any trash and spray weeds, if needed,” Oney said. “We get to as much as we possibly can, basically.”
Volunteers also will be marking booth spaces for the Great American Flea Market, which is the next morning.
The second clean-up will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 13. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Main Street office at 7:50 a.m.
“The 13th is going to be all-out,” Oney said.
October’s clean-up day will include tasks like cutting all the plants back for the winter and, in general, getting everything ready for winter.
“That’s the big, big day,” Oney added.
“We invite everybody to come,” Oney said. “We have a volunteer base with our committees, but anybody is welcome to volunteer.”
