The Flint Hills Technical College library has received a $2,200 grant from the State Library of Kansas. Janet Anderson-Story, FHTC librarian, said the grant will enable the library to purchase materials to support the new general education physical science courses offered at the college.
The grant will permit the library to purchase current DVDs and electronic books on topics such as astronomy, geology, physics, weather, genetics, optics, chemistry and thermodynamics.
The materials will help explain difficult concepts in a visual format thereby helping students grasp basic concepts presented in the course. It also will enhance the library’s contribution to the statewide interlibrary loan resource sharing.
Interlibrary loan is a statewide cooperative service that permits people to borrow materials from libraries across the state. To qualify for Interlibrary Loan Development Grants, applicants agree to make materials in their collections available through interlibrary loan. Proposals are funded on the basis of their potential to improve the quality and breadth of resources available statewide.
The grant program is funded by the State of Kansas, and is administered by the State Library of Kansas in Topeka.
Forty-two libraries from across the state submitted a total of 47 grant proposals. The State Library approved funding for 27 applications.
