Lyon County was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be a CRS (community rating system) community, making the county residents eligible for a 5 percent discount on flood insurance.
Steve Samuelson, former Lyon County flood plain manager, said Lyon County met goals established by FEMA and earned enough points to receive the discount on flood insurance effective Oct. 1.
“Out of all 105 counties in Kansas, only Lyon County is qualified as a CRS County,” Samuelson said. “There are four cities that have qualified for CRS but ours is the only county. This speaks well of our leadership in Lyon County.”
