Shoppers fill Commercial Street at last year’s Great American Flea Market.

It’s not too late to reserve a booth for next month’s Great American Flea Market.

Kayla Oney of Emporia Main Street said booths still are available up and down Commercial Street. She said even though officials prefer to have submissions by Sept. 1, vendor forms will be taken later than that.

Vendor forms are available online at emporiamainstreet.com, at Madelyn’s and Town Crier Bookstore.

Oney said this year’s flea market, which will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 8, promises lots of things to do from shopping to food to fun.

There will be all kinds of food from barbecue to shaved ice, Oney said.

“There’s going to be lots of things to do,” Oney said. “Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and it will be cool, and there will be no rain!”

In addition to various vendors selling treasurers such as collectibles, antiques and even vehicles, the annual Chalk Fest, sponsored by the Emporia Arts Council, will be in the 900 block of Commercial Street.

The Chalk Fest is a street-painting festival — a community-wide, multicultural celebration of the arts.

The 1000 and 1100 blocks of Commercial Street will feature a car show sponsored by Emporia Main Street and Emporia Flatland Cruisers.

New this year is a motorcycle and trike show, which will be in the 400 block of Commercial Street. This is sponsored by the Kansas BTW.

“They are the state trike club and they are doing their rally in Emporia for the first time this year,” Oney said. “We’re trying to make them feel welcome.”

Oney said the Kansas BTW will hold a raffle to benefit Peter Pan Park.

F A 12-foot by15-foot booth space costs $25. Multiple booths are available. Booth set up must be completed before 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 8. The main street of downtown Emporia will be closed from 3rd to 12th streets, and booth space locations will be in the parking areas on both sides of Commercial Street.
