2007 ACT scores improve in Emporia , state, nation

National ACT scores were released this week and Emporia results mirrored those of the state and nation. The average composite score for Emporia High School rose to 21.4.
Since 1980, EHS scores have experienced an upward trend. In 1980, the average composite score was 19.5. The score has not fallen below 20 since 2002.
Students in Kansas generally scored better than the national average on the 2007 ACT. The average composite score in Kansas was 21.9, up for the fifth year.
Nationally, the average score was 21.2. The national average score rose for the third time in the past five years. The percentage of U.S. high school graduates who are ready for college-level coursework continued to grow as well.
The results also suggest a growing number of U.S. high school graduates are prepared for college-level coursework, according to information from ACT, Inc.
