The city of Emporia has redesigned its Web site and given it a new domain name, www.emporia-kansas.gov.
City Manager Matt Zimmerman said the new name should get the city ranked higher by search engines. Its old address, www.emporia.ws, typically ranked between sixth and 10th on most searches.
The old domain name will also be maintained for the time being and lead into the new site.
Old e-mail addresses will still work, but new ones based on the new address have also been activated. So for example, City Engineer Keith Beatty can still be reached at kbeatty@emporia.ws or keith.beatty@emporia.ws, but messages may also be directed to keith.beatty@emporia-kansas.gov or kbeatty@emporia-kansas.gov.

Can anyone tell me why Emporia originally had a .ws domain to begin with? .ws is a Western Samoa domain!
Wait a minute! If you take the word Somalia and rearrange the letters (minus the L, I), it spells Samoa! Coincidence?
I didn't even know that Emporia had a web site until I read this article. I've been going to the rather sparse www.emporia.com web site all this time (owned by the Gazette).
Hey, here's an idea - Maybe the Gazette could have given Emporia the www.emporia.com domain name? Just an idea.
