Russell Allen Dempsay of Burlington has been accused of murdering LeRoy resident Richard Duane Freeman II and is being hunted by authorities.

Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison asked Kansans to keep an eye out for Dempsay and call the police immediately if they see him.

Dempsay is a 25-year-old white man who is 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 175 pounds and has blonde hair and blue eyes.

“Kansans should not approach him or attempt to interact with him,” Morrison said in a joint announcement Wednesday with Coffey County Attorney Doug Witteman. “They should just call law enforcement right away.”

Freeman’s body was found July 9 in a LeRoy mobile home. He was 63. Dempsay is accused of killing Freeman in the course of a robbery and has been charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated robbery.

The charges are only allegations, Morrison said, until proven in court.
