Americus Days will be Oct. 6. The Matfield Green Radio Show will sponsor caller Lucy Smith, who will instruct participants in the art of contra dancing. This will take place on the tennis courts from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be a performance by dancers from Sherry’s Dance Workshop from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
A homemade pie auction will be held at the tennis court at 1:30 p.m. A homemade, ice cream contest will be held at the same time and place. For information, call Nathan Anstey at (620) 443-5276.
New this year for the sesquicentennial celebration will be a beard contest. Two awards will be involved — for the longest beard and for the best-shaped beard. Judging will be at 9 a.m. in the school district meeting room. For information, call (620) 443-5546.

The next Americus Days committee meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., Aug. 21 in the Presbyterian Church Annex on Broadway.
