Tourism workshop
A Flint Hills tourism workshop, “Packaging Agritourism Events: You can do it! We can help!,” will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in room 204 of Emporia State University’s Cremer Hall. A $10 fee will be charged at the door for all participants.
It will feature Jan Jantzen, owner of Flint Hills Adventures, an agritourism consultant. The workshop is for current or prospective business owners who wish to provide visitors with such things as lodging, food, entertainment, hunting, trail riding, music or Kansas Flint Hills products. The series of workshops is sponsored by the Center for Business and Economic Development of the ESU School of Business, developed in partnership with the Flint Hills Tourism Coalition, the Flint Hills Resource Conservation and Development AgriTourism Initiative and the ESU School of Business Small Business Development Center.

SRS open house
The Emporia service center for the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services will have an open house from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at 1701 Wheeler St. The purpose of the open house is to inform people about the services available through SRS and to enhance the agency’s partnerships in the community. There will also be information about employment with SRS.
The agency has development a 20-minute DVD about the services it offers. The DVD will be played throughout the morning.

Storm sirens fixed
Technical difficulties that caused problems with the city’s tornado sirens have been corrected, according to a news release from Lt. John M. Koelsch of the Emporia Police Department.
Several of the sirens failed to sound during Wednesday’s routine 10 a.m. testing.
