Emporian Faces Many Child Sex Charges

Hearing on motions will be Wednesday

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

A motion hearing is scheduled Wednesday in cases involving a man accused of a host of sexual offenses against children, many involving alcohol.

Raul Manual Magallanez Jr. was charged late last year with aggravated intimidation of a witness and rape or sexual intercourse with a child less than 14 years of age.

Magallanez also has been charged with a total of 56 additional counts in two cases filed in February.

The first 2007 case involves 13 counts of rape or sexual intercourse with a child, 19 counts of furnishing alcohol to a child for illicit purposes, four counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, one count of indecent solicitation of a child 14 to 16 years of age, sexual exploitation of a child, indecent liberties (fondling or touching) with a child, criminal sodomy with a child between 14 and 16 and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The second 2007 case accuses Magallanez of four counts of rape or sexual intercourse with a child, seven counts of furnishing alcohol for illicit purposes, three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child and one count of sexual exploitation of a child.

Jury selection for his trial is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Monday. All three cases will be tried at that time.

I don't care whose feelings I hurt by saying this or if anyone on here thinks its fair. This man should be hung out in the middle of town by the junk he used to do this to these kids and have the same thing done to him. Maybe, the next perv would think twice. He should be glad it wasn't one of my children he did this to.

The sad thing is is that this man more than likely will not go to prison forever, he will get out. The laws need to be changed to protect our children. I personally believe he deserves life inprisonment.....just as if he had murdered someone.

Mark my words: He will plead out to lesser charges than what he is accused of.....the county won't want to pay for a trial so they'll offer him a deal.

It works like this in criminal law all the time. It's cheaper to plead to lesser charges than it is to pay for a trial....regardless of how horrendous the crime(s) are.

All of you are right on this subject. I'm surprised not more people have commented about it. This is an ugly thing that has happened and I wish we could send a message.

* sigh * it's really sad for the children who were victimized. Not only do they have to relive what this man did to them in court but they have to endure the fact that he will end up doing less than 10 years and be set free to do this to a new group of children. And I can assure you that he will come back to emporia after he gets out. Emporia is all he knows and he got away with a lot more than he is charged with at the moment.

I have no doubt they will plead this one down. But arent these the kind of men they target in prison? We can only hope he gets his behind bars. Life is to easy and yes castration should be mandatory.

I agree the animal should be hung up. Absolutely sickening! It should be a crime for him to get any kind of a deal. Geez louise - how many counts/charges did all that add up to - I lost count! Wonder what would happen if we went to an eye for an eye type system - do you think people might think twice before committing a crime. And I don't mean humane treatment when caught - I mean I doubt murders think of how humane they are treating their victims. Let's save some money - no nice lethal injection - 1 bullet should do it - how much would that cost?!
