County to Discuss Budget

Commissioners to meet Wednesday morning

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

Budget discussions will resume this week in the Lyon County Commission chambers when commissioners conduct their weekly study session, starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday in the Lyon County Courthouse.

Lougene Marsh, executive director of the Flint Hills Community Health Center, will talk about the county’s proposed 2008 budget at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Marsh presented FHCHC’s 2008 budget earlier this year, which included a restoration of $100,000 in funds previously cut from the center’s budget. She said the number of patients seen in the family planning clinic fell by 25 percent in 2006 because of reduced funding. Marsh said the clinic has no way of serving those patients without funding.

At 10:30 a.m., commissioners will give their response to a request made last week by Jon Vopat of S&S Oil and Propane, which shares a property line with the Lyon County Fairgrounds.

Vopat said last week that once Deer Trail Implement had moved out of its building, motorists had been driving through the parking lot to S&S’s property, creating a mess. He asked commissioners if they could erect a fence along the property line to keep drivers from cutting through.

Other items on the agenda:

F At 9 a.m., Chip Woods, Lyon County engineer, will present the following items: An agreement with BG Consultants for construction observation of Westar road improvements on Road U and Road 200; an agreement with BG Consultants for engineering design and construction observation for bridge repairs; consider pay-out options on creek gravel equipment; a quote for $3,467 from Ka-Comm. Inc. for replacing four remote handsets damaged by lightning and adding one handset in the assistant county engineer’s office.

F At 10 a.m., Tiffany Robinson will discuss ambulance service.
