Advanced degree
Rachael T. Krueger, a 1994 graduate of Emporia High, has been practicing law for five years and recently obtained an advanced master of law degree from New York University School of Law. In addition, NYU awarded her the Jack J. Katz Memorial Award for demonstrating highest excellence in entertainment law.
Krueger is a legal analyst with Bloomberg Publications in New York, specializing in intellectual property law. She is the daughter of Jim and Marilyn Krueger of Emporia.
Education grants
Amy Mahew of Emporia and Nola Miller of Dwight have been selected as the recipients of $500 recruitment grants awarded by Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
The recruitment grants are given each year to women who are studying for a bachelor or advanced degree in education and are residents of Lyon, Morris or Wabaunsee counties.
Mayhew graduated in 2003 from Emporia High School and attends Emporia State University where she graduate in December 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and social sciences.
Miller graduated in 2003 from Council Grove High School and is a senior at Kansas State University where she will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and business.
On the dean’s list
Charles Black and Jake McCracken of Emporia have been named to the Hutchinson Community College Dean’s Honor Roll for the Spring 2007 semester.
Summer research
Crystal Cunningham of Emporia participated recently in Truman State University’s 10-week Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program. A sophomore at Truman State University, she is the daughter of Cecil and Evelyn Cunningham and attended Emporia High School. The program is supported by a National Science Foundation grant aimed at increasing the number of students who choose careers in science, mathematics and the mathematical sciences. This summer program is designed to enrich the undergraduate curriculum through meaningful student-faculty interactions.
Honors at Cowley
Sarah M. Richardson of Emporia was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll at Cowley College for the 2007 spring semester.
Brieanna Baxter, daughter of Steve and Gloria Baxter, is the recipient of a Duck Dash Scholarship at Cowley College for the 2007 fall semester. At Emporia High School, she was involved in the marching, symphonic and pep bands, district honor band, choir and the science club. She plans to major in music.
