Emporia toddler run over, injured in home driveway

An Emporia toddler is in stable condition at a Kansas City hospital after being run over Wednesday evening by an SUV that was backing out of a driveway.
The Emporia Police Department responded to Newman Regional Health around 5:35 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.
Officer Larry Clay of the Emporia Police Department said in a press release that Juvenal Ruiz was backing out of his driveway at 2320 W. 22nd Ave. in a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer when the vehicle drove over 18-month-old Jovany Ruiz.
Jovany was taken to Newman by private vehicle and later was transferred to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo..
Clay said Jovany was in stable condition at the hospital on Thursday.
