Starbucks jazz

The Starbucks Art Showcase will feature the works of Charlotte Nickel and other Starbucks partners, along with a live jazz music performance by Starbucks’ own Karsten Burns and band, starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at Starbucks Coffee, 2916 Eaglecrest Drive.

Book signing

Karen Manners-Smith, associate professor of history at Emporia State University, will be at the Town Crier Bookstore from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 25 for a book signing and reading from her new book, “Time It Was: American Stories from the Sixties.”

East Village

Opera Company

The Lyric Opera of Kansas City will present a special one-night concert on Aug. 24 by the East Village Opera Company, a rock group that “seamlessly meshes arena rock sounds and opera hits,” according to the press release.
