The Emporia State volleyball team has been picked to finish sixth in the preseason MIAA coaches poll, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Hornets, who just missed out on the playoffs last year with a 15-16 record, return three starters from last year.
Washburn was picked to win the conference with six first-place votes and 77 points. The Lady Blues return six starters from a year ago.
Truman — a team that was ranked No. 1 in the nation for much of last year — was second with 73 points, followed by Central Missouri (63 points), Pittsburg State (61 points) and Northwest Missouri State (44 points).
ESU begins its season Aug. 24 at the Missouri Southern Tournament in Joplin, Mo. The Hornets’ first home match is scheduled for Sept. 4 against Central Missouri.
