Commercial interest in the Modine building may have revived.
Jeff Dozier of the Kansas City retail firm Kessinger/Hunter said he is negotiating contract terms with a national retailer for the building and could have a contract signed before the end of May. If that happens, he said, the company would close on the property no later than December.
Dozier said he couldn’t release the name of the retailer yet or even the type of business. He did say the name would be recognizable.
“If this retailer happens, it will make the community very happy,” he said. “It’s a very high-profile excellent retailer.”
It’s not the first time that a deal seemed imminent for the building at 1401 Industrial Road. After Modine Manufacturing closed in 2005, the area was rezoned to commercial in 2006 in hopes of catching a “big-box” retailer or similar operation. But the first companies to express interest late in the year were primarily industrial or industrial-retail mixes.
In January, Dozier said he had two industrial parties that were interested in the building, both with Kansas ties, and that he hoped to have something wrapped up in a couple of weeks. But nothing was ever sealed.
The plant is owned by Proliance International.
