Is the Emporia school district doing enough to discourage bullying in schools

Saturday, April 28, 2007

David Torres

Emporia

I think it is. I don’t see bullying in school.

Chad Dean

Madison

I wouldn’t know. I don’t live here.

Alex Rice

Emporia

When teachers and administrators are around yes. There are a lot of rules to prevent it.

• • •

Cassie Agler

Emporia

I don’t really see any bullying going on so I would say yes. It probably does go on but it isn’t a big issue.

Steve Dall

Emporia

I think they are doing as much as they can and as much as they are allowed to do. Things aren’t what they used to be.

Barbara Miller

Emporia

Idon’t think so. I have a special needs child and that’s something we deal with on a weekly basis.

I like the whole question thing that the Gazette provides but really, if you talked to more than 6 people, the town would have a better idea of what happens......although you always get the people who don't talk--out of fear of losing their job/their status/their place in Emporia.

Where is snake when you need him? We all know that Emporia High especially makes people a little nervous.

I am sure Snake is somewhere, just waiting to strike. But I must say I do agree with Miss MelissaE this time. There are a lot of people that would love to make comments but can not because they fear losing their jobs, etc. I think that is why so many people post comments on this page -- as a way to express their true feelings. And maybe people should not be to hard on ol' Snake. Give the guy credit, he just tells it like he sees it.

I went to a 5th grade music program last evening and was really taken by surprise. The over all production was great. The draw back, first of all was the opening was in Spanish. I did not understand a word of what they said. I thought English was the number one language???? However, they did say "under God" in the Pledge of Allegence to the Flag. Some one was thinking of us on that one. Then, I spied the "problem child". She was chewing gum, laughing, and almost making a mockery of the whole program. I think the teacher had every right to pull the child from the program but never did this. I later found out that the child has caused many problems, one is picking on other children and starting fights in the play yard while teachers watch. Now I really believe there are more problems in the Emporia schools than we will ever know. How very sad because this child is probably sociopathic and no one has the guts to speak out. When she really hurts some one, then maybe the parents, supervisors, teachers will wakeup. Again Emporia schools have always been know by the kids who have money and what their name is.

daveedailey--I believe I was at the same 5th grade program you were at. I agree with you when you say the overall production was great. I do not agree with you when you said the opening was in spanish. If you had been paying attention, you would have noticed the opening was actually in english. The only time spanish was spoken was to translate the opening speach.

Sure there doing plenty( ha-ha) just today my daughter got picked on by a girl that was bragging her dad is a cop and that she can get by with bullying and none of the teachers done a dam thing. Thats why kids learn to defend there self by knocking the dog crap out of those idiots looking for it. This district wont figure it out till someone gets picked on enough and they blow up on there ass. Like every other school shooting in America, the kids were picked on and the teachers ignored it. They didnt ignore that MG they were running from. Havent you people learned anything here about bullying. I am sure you see the problems it can cause on TV and if not you deserve what you get one day.
