The Emporia High track and field team came away with three event titles at the Seaman Relays Friday night.
On the boys side, Jacob Davies won the 800-meter run in a time of 1 minute, 59.33 seconds. His counterpart on the girls side, Layne Moore, also won the 800-meter run, finishing ahead of the field in 2:16.83.
Emporia’s girls 4x800 relay team of Heather Coe, Jenna Stanbrough, Michaela Reynolds and Moore also took home a first-place finish, crossing the line 10 seconds ahead of Wamego in a time of 9:34.38. It is the best time in the state by nearly 15 seconds. EHS had the previous top time of 9:49.
The only other top-three finish for the EHS boys came from Eric Dorsey, who finished second in the discus with a heave of 161 feet, 9 inches. Dorsey also place fifth in the shot put (49-3 1/2).
On the girls side, the Lady Spartans’ 4x400 relay of Lindy Arndt, Moore, Coe and Stanbrough placed third in a time of 4:08.61 behind teams from Leavenworth (3:57.93) and Junction City (4:02.86).
Both the boys and the girls squads finished sixth in the team standings. The boys finished with 41 points; the girls finished with 43. Lawrence Free State won the boys title with 95 points; Leavenworth won the girls title with 133 points.
