The Emporia State softball team’s doubleheader with Missouri Southern on Tuesday was suspended because rain. At the time, the Hornets were leading Game One 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
Because the Hornets scored to break a tie during the inning the game was suspended, the two teams will complete the final inning at a later date.
Southern took a lead in the bottom of the first before ESU responded in the third. After reaching on a fielder’s choice, Laura Pfautsch stole second and later scored on an April Huddleston single.
The Hornets added two more in the top of the seventh. Miranda Campbell doubled and later scored on an error, while Chelsea McClernon singled and was brought around on a Jennifer Dace hit to left.
Courtney Reed went all 6 1/3 innings for ESU, allowing three hits and one run while striking out eight.
No make-up date has been announced.
ESU will play a road doubleheader with Missouri Western on Thursday.
Rain cancels Hornet baseball, tennis
The Emporia State baseball team’s scheduled doubleheader today against Pittsburg State has been postponed because of rain.
ESU will play a single nine-inning game with the Gorillas at 5 p.m. Thursday, then make up the next game at 5 p.m. on May 3. Both contests will be at Trusler Sports Complex.
The ESU women’s tennis team’s scheduled matchup with Baker has also been canceled because of the weather. It will not be made up.
