Flinthills tops Marmaton Valley in shortened game

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Before the storms came Tuesday afternoon, the Flinthills baseball team won a rain-shortened game over Marmaton Valley by a score of 9-0.

The Mustangs struck right off the bat with a run in the first inning and then came back with a four-run second inning to go ahead, 5-0.

Flinthills tacked on another four runs in the fourth inning to further stretch out its advantage, and then the game was called in the fifth inning because of the weather.

Jeremy Jackson and Nate Nelson each went 2-for-2 to lead a seven-hit attack for the Mustangs. Jackson also scored two runs and had six RBI, while Nelson scored three runs. Micah Womacks went 1-for-2 with a run scored.

Womacks evened his record on the mound to 2-2, going all four innings and allowing just one hit while striking out four and walking none.

Flinthills is now 7-3 on the season.

Chase County

The Chase County baseball team took a pair of games from Lyndon last Friday at Lyndon. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers, 8-2, in the first game before winning the nightcap, 11-7.

Game One was particularly pleasing for Chase County, as the Bulldogs turned in their first errorless game of the season and pounded out 11 hits.

Lyndon took a 1-0 lead after the first inning thanks to three singles, but Chase County came back to score three runs in the third and another four runs in the fourth to go up 7-1. Lyndon did not get another hit after the first inning.

Brian Palermo led the way for the Bulldogs with a 4-for-4 effort with 2 RBI and three runs scored. Palermo is hitting .592 this season with seven extra base hits.

In Game Two, the Bulldogs came back from a 4-2 deficit with an eight-run fourth inning that was fueled by three Lyndon errors, a walk, a hit batter and four Chase County hits, including a two-run triple by Greg Davis.

Davis finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Cole Starkey started the game on the mound for the Bulldogs and lasted 3 1/3 innings before giving way to Adam Spain, who came on in relief and lasted three innings to earn the win. Palermo pitched the final 2/3 innings to earn the save.

Chase County is ranked third in the Class 2-1A State rankings.
