Four Emporia State Hornets were named MIAA athletes of the week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
ESU pitcher Trent Lare, hitter Megan Davison, tennis player Lacey Luina and runner Jonel Rossbach were all honored for their achievements last week.
Lare, a 6-foot-4 senior, pitched a complete-game, three-hit shutout against No. 5 Central Missouri on Saturday. He allowed just one hit before the final inning.
Davison, a 5-foot-5 senior, extended her hitting streak to 10 games and knocked her 50th career home run last week. She is now just one homer away from tying Truman’s Elizabeth Economon for the all-time MIAA record of 51.
The Derby product went 10-for-19 during the week (.526), adding three RBI and three runs scored.
Luina, a 5-foot-6 senior from Lawrence, helped the ESU women’s tennis team to its second tournament conference championship.
At No. 3 singles, Luina went 3-0. With teammate Marcela Bayon, she also went 3-1 last week at No. 1 doubles.
Rossbach, a junior from Omaha, Neb., won women’s female runner of the week for the third time in the last six weeks.
Rossbach ran the fastest 3,000-meter time in the MIAA this season at the Kansas Relays, winning the event with a time of 10:03.45.
