The Emporia High boys golf team finish sixth out of 24 teams from across the state at the Topeka West Invitational on Monday, carding a team score of 326 to finish 25 strokes behind tournament champion Hayden (301).
It is the first time the Spartans have finished in the top 10 of the tournament in Rick Ekert’s time as coach at EHS.
Bren Fisher turned in the lowest card of the day for the Spartans, as he finished with a score of 4-over par 75 to finish fifth individually. Fisher’s score actually tied with two other golfers, but he won a scorecard playoff to claim the fifth-place spot.
Fisher achieved another first for EHS, becoming the first medalist at the West Invite in Ekert’s tenure.
Hayden’s Riley Piles won the individual title with a 1-over 72.
Fletcher Harder carded an 81, Eric Reimer turned in an 84, Jared Johnson finished with an 86 and Matt McAnarney came in with an 88 to round out the Emporia High field.
