ESU Music

The ESU Department of Music presents the Woodwind Showcase Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Heath Recital Hall. On Sunday the A Cappella Choir and Community Chorus Concert will perform at 3 p.m. at Albert Taylor Hall; the Amphion Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church; and at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the Wind Ensemble Concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in Albert Taylor Hall. General admission is $5; students and senior citizens, $4. Information: 341-5431.

‘Sound Advice’

The Grace United Methodist Church will be host for the “Sound Advice Quartet,” singers of gospel music, in concert at 6:30 p.m. April 29 at the church, 2 Neosho St. The group, regionally known in the Midwest, has been singing together for nearly three years in churches, concert halls and county fairs. They have appeared with Legacy Five, The Lesters, the New Horizons and many other artists. Admission to the concert is a free will offering. For more information, call 343-2240.

‘Cinderella’

The Metropolitan Ballet of Topeka is presenting “Cinderella” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Topeka Performing Arts Center, starring Topeka ballerina Stephanie Heston, now of New York City. Also in the cast is Reading native Jacob Cox, who will play the “eager” Earl of Eiderdown. Cox is returning to Kansas after receiving a full scholarship to Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet for the past two years. He has been accepted into the Washington Ballet for summer study. According to the press release, the ballet was created for Heston in 1995 as a graduation present by Metropolitan Ballet artistic director, June Landrith.

Tickets are available by calling (785) 271-0190 or at Footlights in Fairlawn Shopping Center or at the TPAC box office. Children can have their photograph taken with dancers at 2 p.m. Sunday for a donation of $12.

Ready to jam

Josie’s/My Place, 19 E. Sixth Avenue, will feature the bands Portrait of Malice, The People’s Punk Band and Dear Arcadia starting at 10 p.m. Cover charge is $3 for those aged 21 and over or $5 for ages 19 to 21.

Wichita Symphony

plays pops

The Wichita Symphony Orchestra will present a Pops Concert, “Showstoppers!,” favorite hits from Broadway and film, at 8 p.m. May 12 at Century II Convention Hall, 225 W. Douglas. Tickets are $27.50, $15, $8 and $4. Call (316) 267-7658.

‘Chasing Victory’

in Lawrence

The band “Chasing Victory” will play April 27 at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, 737 New Hampshire St. The doors open at 6 p.m., tickets are $12.
