Coin auction at zoo on Saturday
The first of two coin auctions to benefit the David Traylor Zoo of Emporia will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Zoo Education Center classroom at 75 Soden Road.
Coins may be viewed at the Center from 8:30 to 10 a.m., and a complete listing of coins is available at the web site, www.emporiazoo.org/coins.
An anonymous donor gave the coins to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo late last year. Proceeds may be used for general improvements, animal purchases, education outreach, landscaping, and holiday lights.
Another auction is scheduled on June 9 at the same time and place. Both auctions will be conducted by Swift-N-Sure Auctions of Lebo.
Can drive
Hetlinger Developmental Services, 707 S. Commercial St., will have its spring can drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Hetlinger’s will pay 55 cents per pound for aluminum cans brought in on Saturday. For more information call 342-1087.
Card shower and open house
The family of William “Bill” Cook will have a card shower and open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Emporia Senior Center in celebration of his 80th birthday anniversary. Refreshments will be served.
The family requests the “presence” of friends in lieu of gifts.
