Girl Scouts
There will be a community informational meeting from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Amend Girl Scout Center, 1200 Burlingame Road, about “Challenge Yourself, Change the World,” a program for girls, 14 to 17 years old, who are ready to take leadership in their community, sponsored by the Girl Scout Council.
Twelve girls from across the Flint Hills region will be selected to receive a week of intensive training to become “social entrepreneurs,” who will “see new solutions in their communities using existing resources,” and with the help of adults in the community, said the news release. Several girls, who participated in the 2000 training, are leading projects in Emporia, such as the Celebrating with Art program, G.U.M. Girls, a monthly teen center activity and the Hispanic Culture Carnival. For more information, call Kitty Frank at the council, 342-4532 or kittyf@gsflinthills.org.
