Today

The Emporia Chess Society meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Granada Coffee Company and from 1:30 to 4 p.m. every Saturday at Pyramid Pizza. All ages and skill levels are welcome, including children. There is no charge.

Alpha Sigma Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa meets at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church. Brenda Taylor and Nancy Weeks will be the hostesses.

Tuesday

The Rotary Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Junto Club meets at the home of Cheryl Hawes. Mary Shepherd will give the program.

The Literary League meets at 9:30 a.m. for morning coffee with Bernice Rider, assisted by June Hubert. Roll call will be “Cities in which YOU have lived.” Jean Rodgers will give the program, “Remember When?” Members will bring paper products for the Abundant Harvest.

The Review Club meets with Jeanne Groh, who also will give the program.

The Kiwanis Club meets at 6:15 p.m. in the Commander’s Room at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Single Adult Fellowship group meets at 6 p.m. every Tuesday at Bobby D’s Merchant St. BBQ. Information: Sara, 342-5303.

The Emporia Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will have the annual Business Associate Night, beginning with a social at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. at the Emporia Country Club. Special guests will be business associates of the members along with past recipients of the Business Associate of the Year award. Heather Lusky president of Lusky Enterprises of Baldwin will speak about “Share the Power.”

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1980 meets at 8 p.m. at 932 Graphic Arts Road.

Miriam Chapter 14 of the Order of the Eastern Star meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple, 424 Merchant St.

Lyon County Chapter 36 Disabled American Veterans meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Army Reserve Center, 1412 E. Sixth Ave. The Auxiliary meets at 7:30 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the same location at 7:30 p.m.

The Flint Hills Optimist Club meets at noon at the ESU Memorial Union.

The Hi-Noon Kiwanis Club meets at noon at the Emporia Country Club, 18th Avenue and Rural Street.

The Sertoma Club meets at noon at the American Legion, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Altrusa International of Emporia meets in the Regency Room of the Best Western Hospitality House, 3021 W. Highway 50.

Flint Hills Area Vietnam Veterans meets at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 5, 2921 W. 12th Ave.

Friday

P.E.O. Chapter DI meets at noon at the Hays House in Council Grove, with Paula Evans serving as hostess.

P.E.O. Chapter GT meets at 11:30 for lunch in Topeka with Shirley Moore. The program will be given at 1 p.m.

Saturday

The Emporia Airport Action Group meets at approximately 9:30 a.m. every Saturday at the main terminal of the Emporia Municipal Airport for “hangar talk,” coffee and doughnuts. “You are free to move about” the airport.

The Etude Club meets for a trip to Leavenworth, with Mary Stauffer serving as hostess.
