Book-sale fund raiser
The Learning Center Preschool PTO and teachers, Carol Percy and Dona Jones, will be hosts for an Usborne “Reading is a Gift” book fair from 8:20 to 9 a.m. and 11 to 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the First Christian Church, 202 E. 12th Ave.
According to the news release, the book fair “gives parents, teachers, children and the community an opportunity to promote reading through a fundraising book fair event” and to review hundreds of Usborne book titles. A percentage of all sales will be used for free books or cash for the Learning Center Preschool. A teacher wish list will provide parents and visitors an opportunity to give back to the preschool with donations of books. There will be a selection of discounted books available on first come, first served basis. Books also can be purchased at www.ubah.com/BF21194.
Senior Farmer’s Market training program
All farmers who want to be authorized to accept 2007 Kansas Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program checks at farmer’s markets or roadside stands are required to attend a Farmer Information/Training session. The session for Emporia Farmer’s Market participants will be from 6:15 to 8 p.m. April 25 at the SRS Service Center, 1701 Wheeler St. Participants must pre-register by calling (785) 296-6445 or 1-800-432-3535.
Chorale, bands and orchestra concert
The Emporia High School Music Department will present a concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the school auditorium. Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Orchestra and Chorale groups will be featured. These groups will compete at the State Large Groups Contest on Thursday in Topeka.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Card shower
Friends and family are requesting a card shower for Libby Woodward Cunningham’s 90th birthday. Her birthday is Thursday. Cards may be sent to her at 24 N. Neosho St., Apt. 3G, Council Grove, KS 66846.
