Rinzler leads Osage City boys to Sheeley title

The Osage City boys and Council Grove girls were victorious at the 10-team Travis Sheeley Meet held at Northern Heights on Thursday.
Osage City’s boys were led by Colton Rinzler, who picked up championships in both the 1,600-meter run (4:56.12) and 3,200-meter run (10:53.17). The only other individual championship for the Indians came from Tanner Bartee, who took first in the discus with a toss of 144 feet, 7 inches. Osage City also took first in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:46.88.
Northern Heights took second on the boys side. Cody Neidfeldt had the only championship for the Wildcats, posting a 5-foot-10 high jump.
Council Grove took third, led by Brett Siegle’s three gold medals. He won the long jump (19 feet, 9 1/2 inches), triple jump (42 feet, 7 inches) and 110-meter hurdles (16.28 seconds).
Fourth-place Olpe was paced by Ethan Whitmore, who was first in the 400-meter dash (53.51 seconds) and Colton Stueve, who won the 800-meter dash (2:12.81). The Eagles also won the 4x800 relay (9:08.36).
Other area championships went to Lyndon’s Adam Kitzman in the javelin (144 feet), Herington’s Kris Mueller in the 300-meter hurdles (42.87), and the Lyndon 4x100 relay team (46.49 seconds).
Council Grove’s girls took three titles, as Ali Irons won the shot put (33 feet, 2 inches), Abby Switzer took the 800-meter run (2:34.50) and the 4x
400 relay team was also triumphant (4:39.66).
Burlington placed second with an astounding four championships coming from Katie Guevel. She won the 100-meter hurdles (14.49 seconds), 100-meter dash (12.31 seconds), 200-meter dash (25.90 seconds), and 300-meter hurdles (48.12 seconds).
Heights rounded out the top three, earning five first-place showings. Jacquelyne Leffler easily outdistanced the field in the discus (148 feet, 7 inches) and javelin (116 feet, 7 inches), Danielle Dreier won the high jump (5 feet), Ashley Seiss won the triple jump (33 feet, 1 1/2 inches) and the 4x800 relay team also took first (11:26.18).
Olpe’s Sharon Zeller took a pair of titles, winning the 1,600-meter run (5:46.12) and the 3,200-meter run (12:38.85).
Osage City’s Chelsea Reed was the only other area champion, winning the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 4 1/2 inches.
