One man was killed and two people were injured in a head-on crash Thursday afternoon one mile southwest of Emporia.
Jerry L. Williams, 52, of Emporia died when the 1990 GMC pickup truck he was driving was struck by a northbound 2003 GMC pickup that was attempting to pass a semi-tractor trailer. Williams was driving south when the accident happened.
According to information from the Kansas Highway Patrol, dusty road conditions limited visibility and contributed to the cause of the accident.
The driver of the northbound pickup, Bruce C. Vanderman, 47, of Madison, was taken to Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka for treatment, the KHP report stated.
A passenger in his vehicle, Joshua Vanderman, 11, of Madison, was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. Newman Supervisor Jami White said she was not able to release information on the boy’s condition.

gravel roads, semi's and pickups in a hurry don't mix. people need to slow down and think more. Jerry had a very loving family that are really going to miss him so much, he had so much more in life to look forward to doing with his family.
