Opera opens
The Emporia State University Department of Music presents the opera, “The Marriage of Figaro” in English, by Mozart at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday in Albert Taylor Hall on the ESU campus. On Tuesday, the ESU Orchestra will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Albert Taylor Hall. The ESU Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Albert Taylor Hall.
General admission tickets are $5; students and senior citizens, $4. Information: 341-5431.
‘Tempest’ on horizon
“The Tempest” by William Shakespeare will be performed by ESU Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 25-28 in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre at King Hall. For tickets, call the box office at 341-6378.
At the library
The Emporia Public Library’s latest Cook-A-Book program will be at 10 a.m. April 21 and the theme will be “Let’s Spread the Rainbow.” The library will be cooking up a storm as well as sharing stories and special activities. All ages are welcome.
Also, the library’s Preschool Storytime theme for the week of April 16 is “Our Birthday Party!” Preschool storytime is 10:30 a.m. Monday and Thursday morning and 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning for 2-5 year olds.
The theme for “Family Night @ the Library” at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday is “Barnyard Boogie!” The evening will include stories and other activities presented especially for families. Finally, the Emporia Public Library Pat-a-Cake Club and Mother Goose Time Storytime theme for the week of April 16 is “Happy Birthday!” Pat-A-Cake Club is held at 9:15 a.m. on Monday and Thursday mornings for infants up to 18 months. Mother Goose Time is held at 9:45 a.m. on Monday and Thursday mornings for toddlers up to 36 months.

Wichita Symphony
plays pops
The Wichita Symphony Orchestra will present a Pops Concert, “Showstoppers!,” favorite hits from Broadway and film, at 8 p.m. May 12 at Century II Convention Hall, 225 W. Douglas. Tickets are $27.50, $15, $8 and $4. Call (316) 267-7658.
