Rummage sale

The First Congregational Church will have a “huge” Rummage Sale from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, 12th Avenue and State Street. Entrance for the public is on the west side of the church and the sale is in the basement. Items include furniture, of which there are two Ethan Allen chests of drawers; collectibles; household items; clothing; electronics and miscellaneous. Proceeds will go to the Special Projects funds.

Buy a pizza for the playground

Papa John’s Pizza is teaming up with the Peter Pan Park Playground Committee; on Friday the business will donate 20 percent of all pizza sales to the playground project. For more information, call Papa John’s Pizza at 342-7272.

Church variety show

The Lemonade-Popcorn Variety Show will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lebo United Methodist Church. The Genesis Chimers and the Joyful Ringers will perform and the Junior and Senior choirs will sing special numbers. There also will be piano solos, vocal solos, groups and skits to complete the evening. The program is free, but donations will be taken to help with the expenses of the music of the church.

‘Dinner, Dance and Diamonds’

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Osage City is having the “Dinner, Dance and Diamonds” fund raiser Saturday with the social hour at 6 p.m. and the prime rib dinner at 7 p.m. Music for entertainment will be provided by the Santa Fe Trail High School Jazz Ensemble. Sleeping in boxes

Emporia State University students and members of the Didde Catholic Campus Center will sleep in boxes to raise money for the Emporia Rescue Mission. Their goal is to raise $2,000. The “Sleep in a Box: Homeless With Me” event will be held from noon April 20 to 10:30 a.m. April 22 at the center, 1415 Merchant St. Donations may be sent to Didde Catholic Campus Center, Att: Sleep-in-a-Box, 1415 Merchant St., Emporia, KS 66801. Auction and dinner

Tickets are available for the annual Sacred Heart Catholic School “Western Bid ’n’ Bite” auction April 21. Bruff’s steak dinner tickets are $20 and table sponsorship is $25. The Silent Auction is from 5 to 7 p.m.; dinner from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m.; and Live Auction, 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the parish and school offices.

Run or walk for SOS

The Light of Hope 5K Run/Walk to benefit SOS will be held April 21, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the tennis courts at Emporia State University. This event is intended to increase awareness about the issues of sexual and domestic violence as well as child abuse and neglect. Funds raised will be used for services provided by SOS.
