Events planned for kids, parents

In April, it’s all about the young child and the Lyon County Early Childhood Task Force has put together a number of events for adults and children alike during the month of April.

Events include:

Saturday through Sunday — Young artists art gallery at the Flinthills Mall.

Saturday — Car seat safety check lane by the Save Kids Coalition from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Staples, 2200 Industrial Road. Bring children so they can be properly fit into the seat and the car.

Wednesday — Soden’s Grove family fun night. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. visit the Education Center at the zoo. Train rides will be free from 6 to 7 p.m.

April 20 — Family concert with Joyce Slater, a nationally acclaimed story teller and entertainer. The concert will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 807 Constitution St. The cost is $3 per person and children under 2 are free. Tickets are available at Flint Hills Music, 715 Commercial St. or by calling 342-4553.

April 21 — Early childhood workshop with Joyce Slater, “Tell that Tale — Making Literacy Fun.” This event will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. The cost of this event is $7 and will count for two hours of inservice.

April 24 — Family Fun Night at the Emporia Public Library. Story time will be at 6:30 p.m. and Barn Yard Friends creative art time will be at 7 p.m. This event is free for parents and children.
