Spartans earn 6 top finishes at Topeka Relays

The Emporia High track and field team came away with sixth first-place finishes at the Topeka Relays on Monday, as the boys squad finished in third place while the girls placed fourth.

On the girls side, Layne Moore won the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 13.82 seconds, less than a second ahead of the second-place finisher.

Michaela Reynolds provided the Lady Spartans with their only other title, as she won the 3,200-meter run by six seconds with a time of 11:27.29.

For the EHS boys, Caydrick Bloomquist won the pole vault by clearing the bar at 13 feet, 6 inches.

Kevin Coe won the 400-yard dash in a time of 52 seconds. Jacob Davies won the 800 by four seconds in a time of 1:59.67.

The final title of the day for EHS went to the 4x800 relay team, which finished with a time of 3:33.36, while Blue Valley West placed second in 3:35.86.

Elsewhere on the girls side, Samantha Kraft placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 10 feet and came away with a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 3/4 inches.

As for the boys, Miles Ringgold placed third in the javelin with a heave of 165-07, Mike Robinson placed third in the 1,600 in 4:44.46 and Asher Delmott finished second in the 3,200 in a time of 9:58.89.

The Emporia girls finished with 80 points, while Leavenworth won the team title with 113.5 points. The EHS boys totaled 100 points, with Shawnee Heights taking the team title with 116 points.
