The Emporia High girls swimming and diving team reached State consideration times in five events Monday at the Topeka High Invitational, which helped propel the Lady Spartans to a third-place finish.
Hilary Larson in the 200-yard freestyle (fourth place, 2:09.75) and Whitney Starr in the 100-yard fly (fifth, 1:07.37) individually met State consideration times, while Emporia High’s 200-yard medley relay (third, 2:05.91), 200-yard freestyle relay (second, 1:50.68) and 400-yard freestyle relay (fourth, 4:09.73) all made State qualifying consideration times. The 200-free relay already had qualified for the State meet last week with a time of 1:49.67.
As a team, Emporia finished with 282 points to place behind meet champion Washburn Rural (502) and Derby (400).
A handful of other Lady Spartans had quality showings.
Starr finished third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:30.67, while Caitlin McGuire finished in fourth (2:31.46) and Morgan Goad came in seventh (2:34.41).
In the 50-yard free, Jennie Loucks was the top finisher for EHS with an eighth-place showing in a time of 28.20 seconds. Kathryn Scherich placed 11th in 28.75 seconds.
Scherich placed eighth in the 100-yard free in a time of 1:03.30, while Jennie Loucks placed 11th in the 500-yard free (7:01.99)
In the dive competition, Hayley Fry continued her strong season with a third-place finish with 172.10 points. Ashley Weatherd of Salina Central won the event with 192.80 points. Emporia’s Alli Armitage was sixth (144.90 points).
Angie Harris placed 13th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:17.11), and in the 100-yard breaststroke, Summer Wilson came in 17th (1:31.13).
