It’s time to spring forward with the second annual Lawson T. Dody Memorial Walk at Emporia State University.
The walk was started last year to honor the memory of Lawson, who was still born to Blythe and Aron Dody, of Emporia. This year, the walk takes on a new life. Funds will go to help pay medical expenses for Landon, the Dody’s second son, who was born earlier this year with medical problems.
The second Spring Forward event will still help MEND, the organization that benefited from the walk last year, but also will help pay the costs the Dodys are facing with Landon’s medical condition. This year’s event will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at ESU.
The event will begin with a two-mile walk/run like last year’s event. Following the walk/run, there will be snacks, prize give-aways and activities like a rock climbing wall, dunk tank and pie throwing contest.
There will be a $1 entry fee for the walk/run. Those who want to stay and participate in the other activities can purchase a $5 bracelet which allows them to participate in as many activities as they want. The proceeds will be given to the “Landon Dody Fund” at the Emporia State University Federal Credit Union. Registration to the events starts at 5 p.m. Thursday.
