Easter Egg Hunts set this weekend

Tuesday, April 3, 2007

Easter eggs will be hidden in several locations throughout the county and hunt sponsors are looking for children to help find them.

• The Flint Hills Optimist Club has joined CableOne to sponsor what may be the longest-running Easter egg hunt in the county. The 22nd annual Optimist Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in Jones Park. In case of rain, the hunt will be re-scheduled on April 14. Emporia Main Street has donated eggs and each will contain a coupon or a gift certificate from downtown merchants. Several age divisions have been grouped together and the hunts for those groups will be confined to specific areas to make the egg-hunting more equitable. The groups are: 2 years and younger, 3 and 4 years, 5 and 6 years, 7 through 9, and disabled. Sponsors ask that, because of limited parking, participants arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to walk to the hunt areas. Maps and helpers will be available.

• An egg hunt sponsored by the Hispanics of Today and Tomorrow will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday at Las Casitas Park. Age categories are 2 through 5, 6 through 8, and 9 through 12 years.

• A hunt is planned after the 10 a.m. Easter worship service at First Christian Church, 12th Avenue and Highland Street.

• First United Methodist Church will have an Easter egg hunt for children at 10 a.m., between worship services.

• St. Andrew’s Church’s hunt will be at noon, after the 10:30 a.m. Choral Holy Eucharist service.

• The Easter Bunny will be available to pose for photographs with children as part of the Olpe Lions Club Easter egg hunt. The hunt will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Olpe Jones Park. It is open to children aged 12 and under.

• Members of the community have organized an Easter egg hunt for children at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Americus City Park. Cathy Ernst is chairman of the event. The hunt is for children ages 1 through 10. Sponsors request that children be accompanied by adults. In case of bad weather, the hunt will be held in Americus Elementary School.

• Neosho Rapids Community Projects and Neosho Rapids Lions Club are sponsors of an Easter egg hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday on the east side of the of the community building. Children who wear homemade Easter hats, bonnets or caps may enter the contest being held in conjunction with the hunt.
