Fun Run
The Emporia Youth Fun Run will be held on Wednesday, October 11th at Jones Park at 4:15 p.m. Runners should come to the shelter house by the restrooms. In case of inclement weather, the next day has been set as the make-up date.
It is not a competitive event. It is free of charge and everyone will receive a finisher ribbon. It is for fun and fitness. The running will start with the first- and second-graders right at 4:15 p.m., with each age group running right after the other.
Entries can be turned in on the day of the run at the playground shelter house. Those interested should contact Emporia High cross country coach Mark Stanbrough at mstanbro@emporia.edu
Harlem Rockets
exhibition basketball
The Harlem Rockets Comedy Basketball team will play an exhibition game against the Emporia Dream Team at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the Emporia High gymnasium
Advanced tickets to the game cost $7, while tickets at the door on the day of the game will be $8. Tickets can be purchased at Emporia High School or from Emporia Basketball Boosters and Junior Spartan basketball players.
2nd Annual Connie Shell Golf Tournament
The Emporia Country Club will be host to the second annual Connie Shell Memorial Golf Tournament for Hand in Hospice and Cancer Awareness on Oct. 8. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and noon for the two tee times.
It will be a four-person scramble, but there will be chances to win in a gross or net division. Skill prizes will be given. The day will end with announcements of the tournament winners and an evening buffet dinner for everyone, with advanced dinner reservations needed if not in the tournament.
Sign-up sheets are available at the Emporia Country Club pro shop, Hand in Hand Hospice, Central Care Cancer Center, Newman regional Health east and north lobbies and the Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

Youth Basketball

Boys basketball
Fall League
All boys, preschool through eighth grade, are invited to participate in a Fall Basketball League sponsored by Emporia High coach Rick Bloomquist.
Games will be played on Sunday afternoons and one week night at Emporia High School, with one or two games played on Sundays. Games will be played starting at 1 p.m. Sunday and finish at 6 p.m. Games will begin at 6 p.m. on weeknights. Each team will be allowed a maximum of eight players, and teams will be coached by EHS staff and players.
The games will begin Oct. 4, and there is a $50 fee that includes a T-shirt uniform.

Cross Country club
The Emporia Cross Country Club has started its practices.
Practices are open to third through eighth graders. The practices will be conducted in a fun and positive manner and will include many running games. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Jones Park starting at 7 p.m. Runners are welcome to start on any date.
