Someone who purchased a Powerball ticket in Lyon County could be $15 million richer today.
“It’s difficult to say when the winning ticket may be claimed,” said Ed Van Petten, Kansas Lottery executive director. “It could be a few days or even a few weeks before the winner, or winners, come forward. We urge all players who had a Powerball ticket for last night’s drawing to check their tickets very carefully.”
Kansas Lottery officials announced today that a ticket sold in northeast Kansas won Wednesday’s $15 million Powerball jackpot.
For security reasons, the Kansas Lottery does not release the city where a ticket is sold or the retailer that sold the ticket until the ticket is claimed, said Sally Lunsford, Kansas Lottery spokeswoman. The northeast region of Kansas includes 20 counties — Marshall, Nemaha, Brown, Doniphan, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Atchison, Geary, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Wyandotte, Johnson, Osage, Douglas, Franklin, Miami, Morris and the northern half of Lyon.
The winning numbers in the September 27 Powerball drawing were: 23-28-33-35-49 Powerball 16. The Power Play number was 3. The jackpot-winning ticket matched all six numbers drawn. The winner should sign the back of the ticket and keep it in a secure place until presenting it to claim the jackpot, lottery officials said. The jackpot winner may want to consult a financial or legal adviser before claiming a prize of this size. In Kansas , players have 365 days from the date of a drawing to claim their winning tickets.
Powerball jackpot prizes won in Kansas must be claimed at Lottery headquarters at 128 N. Kansas Ave. in Topeka , or at the Lottery’s Great Bend office, located at 3007 10th St. in Great Bend . The winner can call the Kansas Lottery at (785) 296-5700 with any questions before claiming the prize.
The retailer that sold the ticket will receive a $10,000 bonus from the Kansas Lottery for selling the jackpot-winning Powerball ticket.
