Friday Thoughts is a light-hearted commentary.
ONE MIGHT THINK our community has gone to the dogs, what with all the special treatment that they receive. Dogs are taking dips at the aquatic center, being pampered at doggie spas and playing in their own park in west Emporia.
All this doggy attention has made me ponder the phrase “Dog is man’s best friend” and reflect on things that our dog, Abby, and I do together.
Abby likes construction projects. One of the more interesting projects was when Abby noticed our wall had a tiny bump on it. She chewed a big hole in the sheetrock just to get the bump out.
Abby likes to make sure I don’t get a full night of sleep. During the day, she likes to eat grass. Then around 3 a.m., she likes to throw it up on the carpet. She then likes to watch me clean her mess up.
Abby also likes to play chase around the house. She likes to get her feet caked with mud so they look like softballs. She then likes to open the door to let herself into the house and then jump on the sofa and bed. She really enjoys the spirited game of chase that takes place to get her and her muddy paws outside.
Whoever coined the phrase, I can only assume that they didn’t have a “friend” like ours.
