A 15-year-old girl has admitted making anonymous calls to a 14-year-old female Emporia High School student. The younger girl and her parents last week reported the calls to the police.
The 15-year-old told police that the other girl was an acquaintance and there were no ill feelings between the two.
“She does not recall what she said, but didn’t think she made any threats,” said Police Chief Mike Heffron Thursday afternoon.
The recording of the voicemails has been sent to a studio to try to clean up the recording, Heffron said. Much of the conversation on the tape is inaudible, although some have said they can hear the word “kill” repeated over and over.
The investigation continues and will be forwarded to the Lyon County attorney for a possible charge of telephone harassment, Heffron said.
The phone calls, which were reported Sept. 1, sparked rumors around town and fear at the high school about a planned attack.
“It is the opinion of the police department that this was a prank committed due to boredom and there was no danger to any students due to the actions of the suspect,” Heffron said.
