Emporia fire crews responding to a reported structure fire Sunday afternoon found that the homeowner had put the fire out.
Three fire engines, an ambulance and the shift commander vehicle all went to the home of Thomas Hicks, 1545 20th Park Place after receiving a call at 2:37 p.m.
The fire started in the shake shingles of the home’s roof, said Acting Officer Eric Gilger, referring to the report. Hicks had put out the fire with a garden hose.
Crews checked the inside of the house to make sure the fire hadn’t spread there. It hadn’t.
