Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Jonathan E. Miller was discovered dead at his home Monday morning in Emporia.
The Emporia Police Department is investigating the unattended death. According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, there is no evidence to indicate Miller’s death was caused by anything other than a medical problem.
Miller, 34, joined the department in 1994 as a detention officer. He was promoted to deputy in 1998. In February 2004, Miller was promoted to supervisor of the evening shift.
In 2002, according to an article in The Gazette, Miller worked at the Olympics in Salt Lake City. He was one of 500 certified law enforcement officers from around the United States selected for the Law Enforcement Volunteer program administered through the Utah Olympic Safety Command. More than 1,200 officers applied for the unpaid positions.
