Named senior R.A.
Jennifer Luvene Waller of Burlington has selected as a senior resident assistant at the University of Kansas residence halls. She is an elementary education major and the daughter of Jan Martin.
Summerfield scholar
Council Grove High School graduate Benjamin Mark Hornung was awarded the Summerfield Scholarship at the University of Kansas this semester. He is the son of Joel and Jeanette Hornung and is a freshman in pre-medicine.
Summerfield scholarships for men are funded through an endowment established by the late Solon E. Summerfield, a Lawrence native who earned bachelor’s and law degrees from KU in 1899 and 1901. He endowed the scholarship program in 1929.

Student on tour
Chelsea Toso is touring the western United States with the nationally recognized Concordia (Minn.) College Orchestra during their 2006 fall tour from Oct. 28 through Nov. 5. They performed in Wenatchee, Tacoma and Bothell, Wash.; Missoula and Helena, Mont.; and will have a home concert at 4 p.m. Nov. 5 in Memorial Auditorium on the Concordia campus. Toso is the daughter of Dale and Debra Toso of Reading.
OCS graduate
Gerald R. Simecka graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash., and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army National Guard. He is the son of Jerry R. and Eva E. Simecka of Topeka. His wife, Monica, is the daughter of John and Linda Cosgrove of Council Grove.
In honor concert
Robyn Meahl of Admire performed Sept. 22 in the Kansas Music Teachers Association Student Honors Concert in White Concert Hall at Washburn University. Meahl was one of 12 pianists requested to perform at this honors event. She is a sophomore at Northern Heights High School and the daughter of Jeff and Beth Meahl of Admire. Jane Wheat of Allen is her piano instructor.
