Split the cost

EXPANDING the Lyon County Commission to five members will provide Emporia and Lyon County citizens better representation — five minds to tackle difficult problems.
Five commissioners do not need to cost any more — just divide the current salaries by five and keep the total the same. With a five-member commission, power is diffused compared to only three members and the workload can be distributed to be less of a burden. The Emporia Board of Education has seven members and the Emporia City Commission has five members. They both serve the public well. This is 2006 — not 1906. Time to bring Lyon County into the 21st century.
